Sacramento County believes that internships are the bridge between academic knowledge and real-work experience. Our mission is to connect aspiring professionals with valuable internship opportunities in our various departments.

The County offers the following types of student internships:

  • ​Paid
  • Volunteer/Unpaid

Note: Academic Credit can be earned for both paid and volunteer/unpaid internships, depending on your college or course requirements.

The availability​, type and duration of internship positions will vary by department or office. 

Req​uirements

Students must be currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution leading to a program certificate, Associate's, Bachelor's, or advanced degree.

The County utilizes specific classifications for college students interested in internships. Classifications are specific to a student's area of interest. Please see the college specific internship classifications below.

  • Student Intern – Various Majors
  • Engineer Architect Student Intern -Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Grad Student
  • Legal Research Assistant
  • Social Worker Student Trainee

The County has partnered with Internship Service Agencies who help facilitate the process in hiring interns at the County. Our current agreements are below. If you are a student who has an account with the following Internship Service Organizations, you may also search for County internship opportunities with your student intern account.

The County has specific classifications for high school students interested in temporary employment during high school and employment post high school graduation. Please see high school specific classifications below.
